Choosing PVC-Coated Conduit: The Plasti-Bond Difference

When it comes to protecting electrical raceway systems in the harshest environments, compromise is not an option. For over 50 years, Plasti-Bond, a member of the Robroy family of brands, has been leading the industry in corrosion-resistant solutions. As the original pioneer of PVC-coated rigid metal conduit systems, we continue to innovate and set the standard for long-lasting performance, safety, and reliability in the field.

Why Corrosion Protection Matters

Corrosion is one of the most costly and persistent threats to electrical systems. From industrial plants and wastewater facilities to offshore platforms and chemical processing units, harsh environments can degrade unprotected systems quickly—leading to safety hazards, unscheduled downtime, and expensive repairs.

Plasti-Bond is more than just conduit—it's a complete corrosion-resistant system. Engineered for durability, every component is designed to create a sealed barrier that shields electrical infrastructure from chemicals, moisture, salt air, and other corrosive elements.

Built to Withstand the Harshest Conditions

Plasti-Bond conduit and fittings are available in trade sizes from ½" to 6" and feature:

  • A rugged 40 mil PVC exterior coating
  • A 2 mil urethane interior coating
  • Compliance with UL 6, NEMA RN-1, ANSI C80.1, UL 1203, and ETL PVC-001 standards

Built with users in mind, Plasti-Bond ensures your electrical system can stand up to even the most extreme environments—keeping operations running.

Innovation That Delivers

Our product development is driven by real-world applications and customer feedback. Some of our most trusted innovations include:

  • Form 8 Fittings with a patented interlocking V-seal gasket: UL Type 4X listed and IEC IP69 rated for extreme protection.
  • Sealing Sleeves: Sized to cover coated conduit threads, preventing corrosion at connection points.
  • SpeedCouple: A PVC-coated coupling that eliminates the need to rotate conduit or elbows, saving time and labor—especially in tight spaces.
  • Sealing Locknut: Designed for seamless transitions to approved non-coated products like Schedule 80 PVC, without exposing threads.
  • Reducing Bushings & Liquidtight Transition Adapters: Simplify installation while maintaining a fully sealed system.

Safety in Hazardous Locations: UL 1203 Listings

When working in classified environments, safety is paramount. That’s why Plasti-Bond sealing fittings, outlet boxes, EC flexible couplings, and unions are UL 1203 listed—a first in the industry. These products are tested to preserve the flame path integrity of hazardous location fittings, ensuring compliance and protection.

  • Spot the Red Tag: All UL 1203 listed Plasti-Bond products come with a permanently affixed red metal tag—your guarantee of verified safety. If there’s no UL tag, it’s not UL listed.
  • Smart UL Mark Integration: Our hazardous location products also feature the UL Smart Mark with a QR code for instant on-site access to product certifications and safety documentation.
  • Precision You Can Trust: P5SA™ Validation: Plasti-Bond’s P5SA™ validation system is a patented safety feature found on our sealing fittings. A beveled edge around the plugs ensures proper thread engagement—five full threads as required by the National Electrical Code (NEC). If the plug sits below the bevel, you know it's properly installed. That’s visual confirmation you can rely on.

Verified Performance: ETL PVC-001 Adhesion Standard

While many brands meet basic safety requirements, Plasti-Bond goes further by consistently meeting the ETL PVC-001 verification standard—a benchmark for coating adhesion. This extra layer of validation proves that:

  • Our coating bonds reliably to the substrate
  • Our product lifespan is up to 10x longer than brands without ETL PVC-001 verification
  • We pass quarterly performance tests to retain certification

With ETL PVC-001 verification, Plasti-Bond raises the bar for long-term reliability in corrosive applications.

The Plasti-Bond Difference

From our founding to today, Plasti-Bond has remained focused on one mission: delivering uncompromising protection through innovation and quality.

When you choose Plasti-Bond, you're not just choosing a product—you're choosing:

  • A system that protects against corrosion and failure
  • Products designed to exceed standards, not just meet them
  • A brand backed by decades of proven performance in the most demanding industries
